Below, we explain the rest: which box to choose for your needs, how much you should expect to spend, and what to compare between stores in Portugal.
Which stores sell Magic in Portugal?
There are several Portuguese TCG stores. The key things to compare are whether the product is factory-sealed, where it ships from (many stores ship from abroad and take two weeks), the shipping costs, and whether they accept MB Way and Multibanco. At GeekVortex, we always ship from Portugal, only sell official, sealed products, and offer a 3-year legal warranty.
Play Booster: the individual pack
This is the basic Magic unit. Each Play Booster contains 14 cards, including at least one rare or mythic rare and one guaranteed foil card.
- Typical price in Portugal: €4.50 to €6.50
- For: anyone who wants to try it out, enjoys the thrill of opening packs, or wants a specific card from a set
- Watch out: buying individual boosters is the most expensive way to build a collection. They're great as a little treat, but a poor strategy

Bundle (or Fat Pack): the best first step
A Bundle is a box that usually includes 9 Play Boosters, 40 basic lands (half foil), an exclusive promo card, a life counter die and a storage box.
- Typical price: €40 to €60
- For: anyone who is ready to get started, or looking for a gift
- Why: basic lands are the boring part to buy separately, and they’re included here. The foil promo is only available in the Bundle
In terms of value for money, the Bundle is almost always the most sensible purchase for beginners.
Beginner Box: for anyone who has never played
The Beginner Box contains two ready-to-play 60-card decks, a rules guide and a few boosters. You don’t need to know anything: open it, take out the two decks and play with a friend within the first 10 minutes.
- Typical price: €20 to €35
- For: gifts, two people who want to try it together, families
If you’ve never played Magic, start here rather than with boosters. Opening cards without knowing how to play is much less fun.
Play Booster Box (display): for Draft
A Booster Box contains 36 Play Boosters. It’s the product stores and groups use to play Draft: eight people, three boosters each, build a deck on the spot.
- Typical price: €110 to €170, depending on the set
- For: play groups, collectors of a specific set, anyone who resells individual cards
- Watch out: a display box doesn’t guarantee valuable cards. If you want a specific card, buying it individually is almost always cheaper
Collector Booster: only for collectors
Collector Boosters contain more foils and more alternate-art versions, but cost 3 to 4 times more than a Play Booster. They’re for anyone who collects special versions, not for anyone who wants to play.
So, what should I buy?
| If you... | Buy |
|---|---|
| Have never played and want to try it out | Beginner Box |
| Have played before and want to start a collection | Bundle |
| Just want the thrill of opening packs | 1 or 2 Play Boosters |
| Play Draft with friends | Play Booster Box |
| Collect special versions | Collector Booster |
What to check before buying in Portugal
- Factory-sealed products. Unsealed loose boosters may have been weighed or swapped. Always buy from a retailer that guarantees the original seal.
- Shipping costs. A €5 booster with €7 shipping is no longer cheap. Compare the total, not the price of the card.
- Delivery time. Many stores ship from abroad and take two weeks. In Portugal, you should be able to receive your order within 2 to 5 business days.
- Returns. By law, you have 14 days to return an item. Check that the store honours this.
